Kinds of a Preposition

There are different kinds of prepositions:

Simple prepositions

Simple prepositions are words like in, on, off, at, up, with, by and to.

Compound prepositions

Compound prepositions are words like without, within, outside, inside, into, besides etc.

Double prepositions

Double prepositions are words like outside of, out of, from behind, from beneath etc.

Participle prepositions

Participle prepositions are words like notwithstanding, concerning, pending, considering etc.

Phrase prepositions

Phrase prepositions are words like by means of, because of, on account of, with regard to, on behalf of etc.
