English GrammarPrepositionsRead the following sentences:
He is very fond of his daughter. In sentence 1, the word of shows the relation between the adjective fond and the noun daughter. In sentence 2, the word on shows the relation between the verb sat and the noun sofa. In sentence 3, the word in shows the relation between the noun water and the noun bottle. These words of, on and in are called prepositions. A preposition is a word placed before a noun/pronoun to show the relation between the noun/pronoun and some other word in the sentence. The noun or pronoun used after a preposition is called its object. Note that the pronoun used after the preposition must be in the objective case.
He is very fond of me. (NOT He is fond of I.)
