Kgalema Motlanthe

The former freedom fighter and the deputy leader of the African National Congress, Motlanthe was sworn in as the President of South Africa on September 25. He succeeded Mr Thabo Mbeki.

Somchai Wongsawat

Mr Somchai Wongsawat, a 61 year old bureaucrat, was elected Prime Minister of Thailand on September 17. He replaced Mr Samak Sundaravej.

Taro Aso

Taro Aso, the 68-year-old Liberal Democratic Party leader, was elected as the 92nd Prime Minister of Japan on September 24, 2008. He succeeded Mr Yasuo Fakuda.

Ratan Tata

Chairman of the Tata Group, Ratan Tata won the UK India Business Council Award on September 2, 2008.

Roz Savage

The British environmentalist became the first woman to row across the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco in 99 days. She achieved the feat on September 1, 2008.

D Subharao

D Subharao was appointed the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India on September 1, 2008. He replaced Mr YV Reddy.

Dilip Kumar

Dilip Kumar along with Lata Mangeshkar and actor Saroja Devi, was conferred the One-time Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2006 National Film Awards on September 2, 2008.
